12月13日、マクマレイゼミの大学院生は、本学の協定校である台湾の国立高雄科技大学と｢キーワード｣｢季語｣｢季節性｣について英語で議論を行いました。
国際化する英語俳句の世界に見え隠れする季語の伝統性の衰耗と文化間における常識の衝突についてゼミ生のシゥ イーボさん（国際文化研究科博士前期課程2年）と３名の学生が議論を展開しました。
この共同セッションは高雄と鹿児島間の連携を強化するべく友好事業として開催されたものになります。伝達ツール化する英語俳句の世界を意識し、今後も英語俳句と各個人の研究内容を試行錯誤しながら更なる国際的視野の拡大を続けていくことが求められます。今回の共同セッションで挙げられた両地域の課題を表現した2つの英語俳句を紹介します。

後期に開催される国際インターンシップでは、２名の大学院生が台湾の台北市と高雄市に分かれて現地調査と研究に挑みます。
リー カホウさん（国際文化研究科1年生）は台北内の巨匠外語にて企業文化を観察し、香港人目線で行う日本文化レクチャーを2月24日に台北城市科技大学（台湾・台北市）にて行う予定です。
原 有輝さん（国際文化研究科1年生）は「鹿児島だからこそ世界情勢を見据える事ができる」と題した鹿児島の地位を向上させる研究の一環として高雄市を重要視し、現地の最新情報を収集する予定です。
また2月27日に国立高雄科技大学（台湾・高雄市）にて「日本の企業と戦略」をテーマに発表を行い、両地域の理解を促進する予定です。
３名のマクマレイゼミ研究生はこれからも各自の研究を試行錯誤しながら更なる鹿児島と高雄の連携強化に挑んでいきます。
McMurray Seminar, Graduate School of International Culture, Strengthens the Bridge Between Kaohsiung and Kagoshima Across Various Fields
On December 13, three graduate students from the McMurray Seminar engaged in a discussion with a partner school in Kaohsiung about “keywords,” “seasonal words,” and “seasonality” in English. Led by Xu Yi Bo (a second-year master’s student in the Graduate School of International Culture), the conversation focused on the decline of traditional seasonal words and the cultural collisions that occur in the increasingly globalized world of English haiku. This joint session, organized as a friendship event, aimed to deepen ties between Kaohsiung and Kagoshima. As English haiku emerges as a tool for international communication, expanding global perspectives through trial and error—both in haiku composition and in each student’s research—is essential.

In the upcoming second semester of the international internship, two graduate students will conduct on-site research in Taipei and Kaohsiung. Lee Ka-Ho (first-year, Graduate School of International Culture) will observe corporate culture at Master Foreign Languages in Taipei and, on February 24, deliver a lecture on Japanese culture from a Hong Kong perspective at Taipei City University of Science and Technology. Meanwhile, Hara Yuuki (first-year, Graduate School of International Culture) will focus on Kaohsiung, gathering the latest information for his research on elevating Kagoshima’s global status under the theme “Because Kagoshima Can Keep an Eye on the Global Situation.” On February 27, he will present at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology on the theme of Japanese companies and strategies, fostering greater understanding between the two regions.
All three McMurray Seminar graduate students will continue to refine their respective research endeavors while striving to further strengthen the relationship between Kagoshima and Kaohsiung.
