The International University of Kagoshima welcomes candidates widely, from both inside and outside the country, who understand its basic philosophy, objectives, diploma policy and curriculum policy and have the following abilities and qualities. For the purpose of selecting such candidates, a variety of different selection methods are in place to evaluate candidates’ abilities and aptitudes multidimensionally and comprehensively.
Knowledge / skill
- Having completed the senior high school curriculum necessary to apply for university education.
- Having acquired the basic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing through the lessons of their native language(s) and English up to the senior high school level.
Abilities in thinking / judgment / expression
Candidates must have,
- the ability to think out and explain familiar issues multi-dimensionally and logically;
- the will to respect others and build a mutually rewarding relationship.
Interest / willingness / attitude
Candidates must be,
- interested in the future of society and culture nurtured by society;
- in possession of a challenging spirit and willingness to grapple with difficult issues;

History of The International University of Kagoshima
The International University of Kagoshima was founded in1932 by Teisuke Tsumagari(1879-1949) as the first institution of higher education for commerce and economics in Kagoshima.
His successor, Sadao Tsumagari (1915-1983), set up the faculty of sociology, which became the faculty of social welfare in April 2001.
The Tsumagari family's 3rd-generation representative, Sadaharu Tsumagari(1919-2003), established the graduate school and faculty of intercultural studies.
The university currently consists of a graduate school and 3 faculties, which is friends with variety of universities worldwide including Australia, Canada, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United States, and United Kingdom.
