April, 1932 The university was founded in 1932 as the first institution of higher education for commerce and economics in Kagoshima
April, 1944 Renamed as Kagoshima Economics Tertiary College
April, 1950 Progression to Kagoshima Commercial Junior College
April, 1960 Progression to Kagoshima Economics University. Establised the Department and Faculty of Economics
April, 1965 Established the Department of Management and Faculty of Economics
September,1966 Moved campus from Nagayoshi-cho to Shimofukumoto-cho (current address of "Sakanoue") in Kagoshima city
April, 1982 Established Departments of Social Studies and Social Welfare in the Faculty of Sociology
April, 1999 Established Master course of Economics at Graduate school (Policy of local economy)
April, 2000 Established Departments of Language Communication and Humanistics in the Faculty of Intercultural Studies

Renamed as the International University of Kagoshima

History of The International University of Kagoshima

The International University of Kagoshima was founded in1932 by Teisuke Tsumagari(1879-1949) as the first institution of higher education for commerce and economics in Kagoshima.

His successor, Sadao Tsumagari (1915-1983), set up the faculty of sociology, which became the faculty of social welfare in April 2001.

The Tsumagari family's 3rd-generation representative, Sadaharu Tsumagari(1919-2003), established the graduate school and faculty of intercultural studies.

The university currently consists of a graduate school and 3 faculties, which is friends with variety of universities worldwide including Australia, Canada, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United States, and United Kingdom.
