Students can learn many things through various activities such as "Investigating on location", "Interviewing local residents" and "Excavating and collecting materials" to enable students to return what they have learned to local society. This is the purpose of field work at IUK.
A colorful train emblazoned with a white bear and a black pig
The idea for this tram project in Kagoshima was originally created by our students. They worked hard at not only thinking up ideas but also raising funds in the order of 1.5 million yen to cover painting and other necessary expenses. They raised funds by soliciting donations at companies, conducting PR at many events and making and selling original goods. A colorful train emblazoned with a white bear and a black pig started to roll from the beginning of March, 2013. It is getting popular among people and has appeared in a movie.
Publishing the free paper "commu"
This theme of this tie-up project with Kagoshima City Commercial and Industrial Association is "confectionery specialties"in a free newspaper. Students take responsibility for all tasks such as interviewing confectioner shopkeepers, writing and editing articles, and holding events for selling confectionery in cooperation with those shops.
"Making goods" as objet d'art
Students created objects d'art with waste materials and parts of a pipe organ which was no longer used. They also learned about the structure of pipe organs and their history. Now it's one of the symbols of the Department of Music.
Planning and carrying out the "Bibliobattle" project
A presenter introduces the charming points of a favorite book to an audience within 5 minutes. After listening to this presentation, participants vote on which book they would most like to read. Main and pre-events are held by students in most cases.
